About Hayden-Harnett's fall/winter 2009 fashion week presentation - Looking through my dictionary, my eye landed on an entry for Cargo Cults. Immediate inspiration and fascination was born. A cargo cult is a type of religious practice that may appear in primitive tribal societies in the wake of interaction with technologically advanced, non-native cultures. The cults are focused on obtaining the material wealth of the advanced culture through magical thinking, religious rituals and practices, believing that the wealth was intended for them by their ancestors. For our Fall '09 fashion week presentation at the notorious Chelsea hotel on 2/19/09 in room 219, we decided to create a cult of girls who sleep all day and stalk the NYC streets at night in search of precious goods and luxury items they cannot live without. Living on sweets and junkfood only, they practice archery, read romance novels, braid their hair, and hoard luxury goods in their Chelsea lair... all the while looking truly majestic in their Hayden-Harnett bags, apparel, and jewelry.
