Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp and the Green is Good Tote

Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp and her Hayden-Harnett Green is Good tote

We were recently sent this great photo of Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp and the Hayden-Harnett Green is Good Tote she picked up at the recent Farm-Aid concert. Hayden-Harnett's organic cotton eco-tote is the perfect shopping tote, it has a great message, and 100% of Hayden-Harnett's profits from the tote go to benefit Farm-Aid in its efforts to promote sustainable and local farming.

"Green is Good" on Fox TV

Fox 23 was Ben's Fox station growing up in upstate New York, so he was particularly tickled, uh, green that they chose to feature our "Green is Good" Tote as part of their focus on environmentally friendly fashion.

Congratulations to Al Gore

We at Hayden-Harnett have always had a soft spot for Al Gore and share his passion for protecting our environment. We were inspired at the beginning of this year to release our Friends of Al tote bag to do something for the cause. Since its launch, Friends of Al across the globe have helped us to plant 4,870 trees, and to donate $12,175.00 to educate about, and to alleviate the problem of global warming.

Today, Al Gore and a United Nations environmental panel were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. [story here] We wish to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Al Gore for this recognition of his tireless advocacy and hard work, and to the Nobel committee for their recognition of global warming as a great threat to the future of our world.
  • Visit friendsofal.info for more information about our tote and the future home of Friends of Al.

  • Join Friends of Al on Myspace.com.
  • Discuss global warming in our forum.
  • Our reusable shopping tote plants trees, donates to stop global warming, and is fashionable too.

Hayden-Harnett Supports Arts Education

If you've seen our "summer style-school" intro lately, you know we're focusing on education these days. We've been doing a lot to help combat global warming and other environmental problems, but another key part to help make the world a better place in the future is to focus on education. Sadly, one of the most neglected parts of education is arts education, as more and more schools are cutting funding to the arts in an effort to focus on the "essentials". Well, we at Hayden-Harnett believe firmly that art IS an essential part of any curriculum.

Today we discovered Donors Choose, a great way to donate money to public school teachers for purchasing supplies and funding projects. Each teacher submits a proposal for funding, which is evaluated and then posted by Donors Choose. Then, we choose the projects we'd like to fund, such as purchasing art supplies for inner city students, or a projector for art history classes, and many other great opportunities. The teachers in turn send pictures of the students, their artwork, etc.

We've created a challenge to fund some worthy art school projects. Every week we'll check in on our challenge, and match your donations! Let's see what we can do to restore arts education to our schools across the country.

Help Stop Global Warming - Become a "Friend of Al"

heartAre you a little disconcerted by the warming trend these days? (Spring flowers in January? 70 degree days??) The fact that in the past decade we have continued to see record temperatures set one after the other, is only the smallest indication that the earth is warming up. The undisputable fact is that the rising sea levels, changing weather patterns, and other effects of global warming will have a huge impact on our future. The other undisputable fact is that man's actions are contributing exponentially to the problem - but take heart, because our actions can also contribute to its solution.

Hayden-Harnett cares about the globe's future, so inspired by the documentary An Inconvenient Truth, we've decided to help do something about it. Purchase our Friends of Al Tote, and you'll not only be making people aware of your committment to fight global warming with a great functional tote bag, but for each bag purchased we will donate $25 to global warming charities and an additional $10 to plant 10 trees, which help to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and put the brakes on global warming.

Become a Friend of Al

Become a Friend of Al.

Update: Since we launched our "Friends of Al" Tote bag, it's been mentioned in New York Mag's Best Bets Daily, been featured in Time Out NY, and on people.com. Thanks to all the attention, we've sold enough totes to contribute $3,800 to fight global warming, and planted 1,520 trees!
