Hayden-Harnett Upgrades

You may have noticed some changes to the Hayden-Harnett website. We are making many changes in the coming days as we introduce our new Fall/Winter 2009 collection that we hope will greatly improve your experience using our site. Some changes are cosmetic, others involve the interface, and some you will never see, except that they will help the site to load and display faster.

Here are some recent changes to the item display I wanted to highlight:

Social Links We've created links Tweet This! and on item pages so you can share the items you're viewing with your friends on Twitter and Facebook. Of course you can always find us at @hayden_harnett on Twitter and become a fan on Facebook.

More Images Now we can post even more images for each style on the item page. Under the main image, the views now scroll to encompass as many different images as we can upload. You can see it in action on our page for the Kristy Trench in Black.

Customer Comments We added the customer comments icon to emphasize the customer discussions. Since we launched the customer comments section we've received over a thousand thoughtful and helpful comments, and we're proud that this is working so well, and want to encourage more comments on our item pages. The purpose of the comments section is to help other customers learn about the products, how they look, how they fit, and how they feel from people who have purchased them. Comments that are not germane to this purpose, disrespectful or profane comments, and comments that are plainly spam will be removed.

Feel free to comment here about changes that have been made, changes you'd like to see, and anything you think might help us as we update our site.

New HH style series coming: IRL

For the sake of real-time summer fun and style, we're starting a summer style series called "IRL" (in real life). We'll have hh staffers, friends, family, and special guests come into the Brooklyn HH design : shop and style a complete look from head to toe. Should be interesting and fun since summer style can get a bit repetitive when the mercury climbs. Not all of us are glamazon models and often wonder what something looks like IRL on an average non-model body.

If you live in NYC (or are in the area and can make it to our brooklyn shop) and you're interested in doing an IRL style shoot with us, please email hhshop@haydenharnett.com with the following info:

-snapshot of yourself
-brief paragraph letting us know a bit about you...interests, hobbies, where you live, what you do

The IRL style shoots are on Tuesdays. Mailer gets posted to our blog on Wednesdays and sent to our mailing list.

Happy summer style,
-Toni

Namaste, yourselves, Gaiam!

Knockoff Alert- GAIAM ripped. our. ONLY. backpack.

Why?

Yes, the really cute backpack in printed canvas with leather trim that we designed exclusively for Anthropologie in 2007-2008 and are now debuting for Spring09 as the Bleecker backpack in nylon.

Sadness in our oasis... why? As a designer for a decade now, I've seen knockoffs. It happens and you keep on going...no big deal normally. However, this time it was GAIAM!!! A company that I once had much respect for and now I think they are just ridiculous and taking their customers (and their company philosophy) down a sad and terrible, horribly misled path.

Gaiam, as a company that literally does nothing BUT sell and cater to the yoga class, has totally and 100% broken the third rule of yoga which is Asteya...it literally means "honesty; abstinence from stealing". How sad they decided that it was ok to abstain from Asteya in the case of snagging our backpack design. down. to. the very last. detail. and seam.

Maybe if enough people buy this bag from Dick's, Joe's, Bob's, Kathy's, and Bertha's, Gaiam can afford to hire a design team with their own creative accessory ideas. Shame on you, Gaiam. I do hope your karma comes around on this one. Cashing in on the peaceful ones, eh? Shame. on. you.

The saddest part? One of my best friends from college, JBH, who carried and LOVED this bag until it was stolen recently (at the recycling center of all places) and who is also a park ranger in KY AND the most lovely, peaceful person I know is the lady who stumbled across this knockoff. How did she find this thefty gem? We are totally sold out of the backpack and so is Anthropologie. JBH loved the bag so much that she was determined to find a close second. Thanks, JBH...this one deserves a special call-out as you did indeed find what you were looking for.

Namaste rant and roll,
-Toni

PS- design copyright infringement is a terrible problem that, basically, designers have no recourse for. only if it's in chinatown with your nameplate on it can you make the baddie cease and desist. our attorney will tell us to suck it up, but i'm going to start getting thelma and louise with this sh*ot. hall of shame coming up for 2009. please do not support pirated design as it really hurts us all in a strange karmic, chaos theory way.

Ripoff backpack from Gaiam

That's the knockoff, now see our Bleecker backpack, available in a range of colors in a super-durable ballistic nylon with leather trim.

Get Yourself Together...our fall'08 playlist!

hmmm...woah! whatthewhat?

I swear I found this image when doing a google cover art image search for "the rapture; onto the tracks" and, uhm, wow...this very interesting depiction of our current president popped up. Gotta love the pearls that fall into your hands.

Anyhow...I just finished the fall08 playlist for the design:shop and thought I'd share the lovely love that is a dense/nutty/dancey complex mix of The Rapture, Dukes of the Stratosphear, The Mamas and the Papas, Rogue Wave, The Servants, Fleet Foxes, The Rolling Stones, Wings, and Stereo Total.

"All over the Place" would be a very apt title for this playlist, but I felt The Rapture captured my intended sentiment 100% with "Get Yourself Together"...a great anthem for these days. If we truly want change, we are 100% responsible to make it happen. We is me, you, us, citizens and countrymen, global neighbors, friends and foes, Republicans, Independents, Democrats, and Liberals...why can't we all be friends? Time to shake...shake...shake...shake it all up? Yes.

There are those who say that fashion should never be a platform for personal views. I disagree.

What is fashion BUT personal expression and a culmination of art, culture, personality, and a societal snapshot of our lives and times (+ a burning human desire to not be nude)?

1) Get Yourself Together/The Rapture
2) A Sun, A Small Star/The Servants
3) It's My Turn/The Servants
4) Plaid Lined Jacket/Tom Brosseau
5) Play with Fire/The Rolling Stones
6) Kicking the Heart Out/Rogue Wave
7) Army of Me/Bjork
8) 12:30 (young girls are coming to the canyon)/The Mamas & The Papas
9) Angie/The Rolling Stones
10) Sitting By the Riverside/The Kinks
11) Launderette/Vivian Goldman
12) Mind Your Own Business/Delta 5
13) Falcon Settles Me/Rogue Wave
14) Down For So Long/The Rapture
15) Canadian Girl/The Walkmen
16) Love Will/Suburban Kids with Biblical Names
17) Parakit/Suburban Kids with Biblical Names
18) This is Not a Test/She & Him
19) What Can I Do?/The Rosebuds
20) Shake Our Tree/The Rosebuds
21) Every Moment/Rogue Wave
22) Man-Revolutionary/Rogue Wave
23) Heart of the Country/Paul & Linda McCartney
24) Guns of Brixton/Nouvelle Vague
25) 1982/Miss Kittin and the Hacker
26) Glad to Be Unhappy/The Mamas and The Papas
27) Don Gon Do It/The Rapture
28) Mykonos/Fleet Foxes
29) LES Artistes/Santogold
30) Lights Out/Santogold
31) What in the World/Dukes of the Stratosphear
32) Shiny Cage/Dukes of the Stratosphear
33) You/Delta 5
34) Eyes On the Prize/M.Ward
35) Upon this Tidal Wave of Young Blood/Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
36) This Land is Your Land/Bob Dylan live version (orginal by Woody Guthrie)

Bon Voyage to Ben's brother Sam who is moving to San Francisco (and is becoming quite the investigative public radio journalist). Hope to see you soon on the west side.

Sneak Peek! Our Spring'09 "MUSE" collection

Spring 2009 Preview!

Hurrah, NYC fashion week! We're just starting to seriously plan our Fall wardrobe and it's already time to consider spring dresses, sandals, and bags for 2009. Yep, the fashion carrot is ever-dangling and looks quite juicy for spring.

Our big news? We're launching shoes and swimwear fit for the muses of Xanadu. My ultimate dream is that Olivia Newton-John would arrive in full Kira/Xanadu regalia and shop in our Greenpoint store and serenade us all...we could rollerskate and hold hands. Olivia is probably the first true muse that I ever latched onto and I'm positive that I've watched the movie Xanadu at least 84 times. Oh, to be that blonde, Australian, and sing-songy. She even has perfect armpits...sigh.

HH <3's Mizz Greenpoint

The first annual Mizz Greenpoint pageant was a total success! Our darling Mimi placed as first-runner up...not bad for a pageant novice.

Check out the Style.com article for the down and dirty details of the event.

Check out the video about the blood, sweat, and talent it takes to become a champion.

More to come...but for now, we'd like to thank Eric Majorelles and Kat Hennerty of East Coast Aliens and Brooklyn Glamour for a smashing success of an event.

BEHIND THE SCENES -- FALL 2008

Fall 2008 Catalog Photoshoot - Preview

This is my first blog post ever, so I'm sorry if it doesn't sound bloggy enough. I wanted to give everyone a little sneak peak of what the Fall08 Catalog will be like. Today I will post some backstage shots. Tune back for some of the real deal shots next week

The shoot was great and lots of fun (and lots of bagels). The models, Monica and Masha were wonderful and the whole team worked really hard.

Kat, a very good friend and amazing photographer & cinematographer let us use her family's house in Great Neck which worked out perfect for the shoot.

hope you enjoyed the post. if you didn't then just pretend you did, because its my first one and i'm sensitive and self conscious. au revoir -mimi

au revoir!

First Annual Mizz Greenpoint pageant!

everyone at hayden-harnett is SO excited about the first-annual Mizz Greenpoint pageant!!!!!

why? because our lovely and uber-talented art director, Madeleine Eayrs is one of 10 contestants who made it through the grueling finals and will be strutting her hot argentinian/greenpoint stuff in hopes of winning the crown.

although we don't want to give away too much info about our champ, let's just say that she's being styled in hh gear by our amazing apparel designer, Laurel Wells for the catwalk portion...the secret weapon involves a rubik's cube and a hula-hoop. this is a must see event.

the Mizz Greenpoint pageant starts at 8:30 at the East Coast Aliens event space on Franklin Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Cover is $20, and includes two drinks! Click here to make a ticket reservation.

Come out and cheer for our Mimi, check out 10 local greenpoint designers and their muses, and chill out with a brew.
